Retrofit Success

Delivering retrofit at scale continues to present significant challenges for the housing sector. Issues such as data gaps, resident engagement, skills shortages, and programme delays are widely experienced and rarely confined to individual organisations or programmes.

In response to these persistent challenges, SHAP has developed a series of Retrofit Success Guides, directly responding to our network’s call for practical, experience-led guidance. Informed by contributions from over 100 individuals from around 70 organisations from across the housing ecosystem, the guides reflect learning from those planning, commissioning and delivering retrofit in real homes and communities, as well as those experiencing its impact first-hand.

Each guide offers a snapshot of what best practice looks like now and provides direction on how the sector can go further to accelerate retrofit, raise standards and deliver lasting benefits.

The series comprises eight thematic guides, each focusing on an area that consistently influences retrofit outcomes. You can download the guides below. We recommend starting with ‘Retrofit Success: Introduction’ which provides the context for the guides and an overview of each thematic guide.

The development of the Retrofit Success Guides was made possible through the support of West Midlands Combined Authority, Lovell and Equans. Their backing reflects a shared commitment to improving the quality, pace and impact of retrofit delivery, and to supporting practical, experience-led guidance that can be applied across the sector.

Register to attend our free online Retrofit Success Lunch and Learns, where speakers from across the sector will draw on the learning from a specific guide and reflect on their own experience of delivering retrofit, sharing practical lessons from the field. See our Events page for more details.
